Sawatdee ka! My name is Susan, and I’m a Thai American writer based in the Northern California.
I’ve been a reporter or editor at four community newspapers. My last full time reporting gig was as an education reporter at The Press Democrat, a Pulitzer Prize-winning daily newspaper north of San Francisco.
In 2022 I began working in media literacy, using my journalism experience to help others counter misinformation. Even thought I’m a bit of a Luddite when it comes to new tech (I was the last among my friends and family to get a smartphone and I still love using paper planners and notebooks!), seeing how the spread of online mis- and disinformation affects us all motivated me to help in any way I could.
I enjoy reading, hiking, traveling, gardening, watching TV, eating olive oil ice cream and writing fiction. I grew up in Chicagoland, and I’ve lived in Montana, the Great Plains and Bangkok, Thailand. These days I live with my husband, Benjamin, and our son and dog in California.
